If you’ve ever wondered how Disney creates its world-famous attractions and experiences, Behind the Attraction is one of the best documentaries available on Disney+. Produced by executive producers Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Brian Volk-Weiss, the series explores the history, design and storytelling behind some of Disney’s most iconic creations. After covering classic attractions including Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and even the spectacular nighttime entertainment across the Disney Parks, the latest season heads out to sea.
A closer look at Disney Cruise Line
The new two-episode special charts the incredible story of Disney Cruise Line, from the launch of its first ship in 1998 through to the continued expansion of the fleet today.
Viewers can expect exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with the Imagineers and creative teams responsible for bringing the ships to life, and a fascinating look at how Disney’s signature storytelling extends far beyond its theme parks. The series also explores the creation of the newest additions to the fleet, including the upcoming Disney Destiny.

Perfect viewing for Disney fans
Whether you’re planning your first Disney Cruise or simply enjoy learning how Disney creates its immersive experiences, Behind the Attraction remains an entertaining watch. While it doesn’t dive quite as deeply as The Imagineering Story, it offers plenty of fun facts, archive footage and behind-the-scenes access that even seasoned Disney fans are likely to enjoy.
With Disney continuing to invest heavily in its parks, resorts and cruise line, it’s great to see more of these stories being shared with fans.
What’s to come this season?
Disney hasn’t announced a continuation beyond these two episodes, so this appears to be a special mini-season rather than a full six or ten-episode run like previous seasons.
Personally, I’d love to see the series continue. There are still plenty of attractions and experiences that deserve the Behind the Attraction treatment, such as:
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
- Rise of the Resistance
- Radiator Springs Racers
- Mystic Manor
- Journey to the Center of the Earth
- The development of Disney’s new lands, including Villains Land and Tropical Americas.
One thing that has helped fill the gap is the Imagineering documentary series We Call It Imagineering, which has been released on Disney+ after first debuting on YouTube. Disney has already confirmed that more episodes of that series are in production, making it the best source of new behind-the-scenes Imagineering content while we wait to hear whether Behind the Attraction Season 3 will deliver more episodes.
