Autumn, or ‘fall‘, if you are following Disney’s American terminology, is one of the most interesting times of the year to visit a Disney Park. Unlike Christmas, which tends to arrive across the resorts within a relatively short window, the transition into autumn happens much more gradually.
By the beginning of September, pumpkins have already taken over Disneyland Resort in California and Magic Kingdom in Florida. Tokyo and Hong Kong join the Halloween celebrations during September, Disneyland Paris follows towards the end of the month, while Shanghai Disney Resort does something completely different by devoting September to Duffy and Friends before beginning its Halloween season in October.
Add the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, Día de los Muertos-inspired celebrations, Tokyo DisneySea’s continuing 25th anniversary and a collection of separately ticketed Halloween parties, and September and October become two of the busiest months on the worldwide Disney events calendar.
If you are planning a Disney Parks trip this autumn, here is what is happening around the world in September and October 2026.
Disney Parks autumn 2026 at a glance
Disneyland Resort: Halloween takes over September and October
Of all the Disney resorts, Disneyland Resort in California has one of the longest Halloween seasons, with the celebrations already well underway before September begins.
Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort runs from 21 August until 31 October 2026, transforming both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure with seasonal decorations, entertainment, attraction overlays, food and character appearances.
Disneyland Park’s huge Mickey Mouse pumpkin once again greets guests at the top of Main Street, U.S.A., and love it or loath it – Haunted Mansion Holiday brings Jack Skellington and the residents of Halloween Town back to the Haunted Mansion. Characters appear in seasonal costumes and the resort offers Halloween food, merchandise and nighttime entertainment throughout September and October.
Across the Esplanade, Disney California Adventure takes the transformation even further. Cars Land becomes Radiator Screams, with Halloween versions of the land’s smaller attractions, while Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! gives way to Monsters After Dark later in the day.
The biggest event, however, is Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party.
The separately ticketed event runs on selected evenings from 18 August until 31 October, with a total of 33 parties scheduled for 2026. Thirteen take place during September, followed by another fourteen throughout October, including a final party on Halloween itself.
Oogie Boogie Bash takes over Disney California Adventure after normal park hours with Villain Treat Trails, unusual Disney character appearances, Villains Grove and exclusive entertainment. For 2026, Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove is among the characters joining the event.
Autumn at Disneyland Resort is not entirely about Halloween, either.
Plaza de la Familia runs from 21 August until 2 November at Disney California Adventure, celebrating the traditions associated with Día de los Muertos and the themes of Pixar’s Coco. Disneyland Park also features Día de los Muertos-inspired decorations near Rancho del Zocalo.
It means there is really no bad point during September or October to visit Disneyland for its autumn season. Unlike some of the other resorts, there is no need to time your trip around the arrival of Halloween decorations — by September, the transformation is already complete.

Walt Disney World: Halloween meets EPCOT Food & Wine
At Walt Disney World, autumn begins astonishingly early.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party begins on 7 August 2026, which means Magic Kingdom is already firmly in Halloween mode by the time September arrives. The separately ticketed event then continues on selected evenings throughout September and October before finishing, appropriately enough, on 31 October.
The party brings back some of Walt Disney World’s best-known seasonal entertainment, including Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade, Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular and Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular, alongside trick-or-treating, unusual character appearances and Halloween versions of selected attractions.
There are 13 Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Parties during September and 16 during October, making it relatively easy to include one in a longer Walt Disney World holiday.
Magic Kingdom is only half of the story, though, because autumn also brings one of EPCOT’s biggest annual events.

The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival runs from 27 August until 21 November 2026, placing both September and October right in the middle of the festival. Global Marketplaces appear around the park with food and drink inspired by different countries and cultures, alongside the Eat to the Beat Concert Series, festival merchandise and additional entertainment.
For visitors from the UK, September and October consequently offer quite a different Walt Disney World experience from the traditional summer holiday. The intense summer period begins to give way to Halloween evenings, Food & Wine at EPCOT and autumn decorations throughout the resort.
There is also something slightly absurd (but also very Disney!) about walking around Magic Kingdom surrounded by pumpkins when Florida temperatures can still feel decidedly un-autumnal.

Tokyo Disney Resort: summer ends and Halloween arrives
Tokyo Disney Resort offers perhaps the most noticeable transition between seasons.
During the first half of September, the resort is still running elements of its summer programme. That changes in the middle of the month, when Disney Halloween begins on 16 September and continues until 31 October 2026 at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.
At Tokyo Disneyland, the Disney Villains return for The Villains’ Halloween “Into the Frenzy”, a large-scale parade which puts the Villains at the centre of the park’s Halloween celebration.
Night High Halloween also returns, bringing Halloween music to the resort’s evening fireworks, while Haunted Mansion receives its annual Holiday Nightmare transformation.
Tokyo’s Halloween season has also become famous for the extraordinary costumes worn by guests. In 2026, full Disney character costumes are permitted from 15 to 30 September, followed by another costume period from 16 to 31 October.
Tokyo DisneySea joins the Halloween celebration, but autumn 2026 is particularly busy at the park because several other events overlap.
The park remains in the middle of its 25th anniversary celebrations, meaning guests visiting during September or October can experience Halloween alongside the wider Tokyo DisneySea anniversary programme.
There is also Lazos de la Familia, a celebration inspired by Coco and the traditions surrounding Día de los Muertos, which begins in September and continues into early November.
The result is an unusually packed autumn at Tokyo Disney Resort. September visitors can actually watch the resort change seasons during their holiday, while an October visit offers the complete Halloween programme alongside Tokyo DisneySea’s anniversary celebrations.

Disneyland Paris: Halloween begins at the end of September
Disneyland Paris makes visitors wait a little longer.
The Disney Halloween Festival begins on 26 September 2026 and continues until 1 November, meaning October is really the heart of the Halloween season at Disneyland Park.
Once the festival begins, autumn decorations spread throughout Disneyland Park, with pumpkins, ghosts and seasonal displays changing the appearance of Main Street, U.S.A. and the surrounding lands.
Disney Characters appear in Halloween costumes while Disney Villains return for special appearances and entertainment. Mickey’s Halloween Celebration also returns as part of the programme.
One important distinction for anyone comparing Disneyland Paris with the American parks is that the main Halloween Festival is included with normal Disneyland Park admission. There is no equivalent requirement to purchase an Oogie Boogie Bash or Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party ticket to experience the central seasonal entertainment.
For UK visitors, this makes October one of the easiest opportunities to experience a full Disney Halloween seasonwithout travelling long haul.
It is also worth remembering that Disneyland Paris is considerably more capable of producing genuine autumn weather than Florida or California. Main Street covered in pumpkins somehow works particularly well when you are also wearing a coat.

Hong Kong Disneyland: Party Like a Villain
Hong Kong Disneyland’s Halloween season begins a little earlier than Disneyland Paris, with Disney Halloween Time running from 18 September until 1 November 2026. The theme for the season is Party Like a Villain, with Disney’s less well-behaved characters taking over the park.
The award-winning Let’s Get Wicked returns, bringing Ursula, Dr. Facilier, Gaston and other Disney Villains together for one of the resort’s most distinctive seasonal productions.
Uninvited! A Villains Takeover Party also returns, led by Maleficent, while Villains make appearances around the park throughout the season.
Unlike Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World, Hong Kong’s Halloween offering is predominantly woven into the normal park day rather than being centred around a separately ticketed Halloween party. That makes it possible to experience much of the resort’s seasonal entertainment with standard admission.
There is a premium addition for The Nightmare Before Christmas fans, though. Jack Skellington’s The Nightmare Before Dinner returns to River View Cafe from 18 September until 1 November, bringing Jack, Sally and Oogie Boogie into a specially themed dining experience.
Hong Kong consequently becomes particularly interesting from the second half of September onwards, but October is the month in which the Halloween season is in full swing.

Shanghai Disney Resort: Duffy in September, Halloween in October
Shanghai Disney Resort provides perhaps the best example of why this needs to be an autumn guide rather than simply a September Halloween guide.
September and October are effectively two separate seasonal chapters.
From 1 to 30 September, Shanghai celebrates its 10th Birthday Special Duffy Month, with Duffy and Friends taking over the resort for a month of entertainment, character appearances, food and merchandise.
The 2026 celebration introduces a new “FriendSHIP” theme alongside a collaboration with Shanghai Animation Film Studio, incorporating Chinese animation influences into costumes, decorations and a specially produced animated short.
Shanghai Huju Opera performances also form part of the programme, while LinaBell’s fifth anniversary is celebrated from 23 to 29 September. LinaBell made her worldwide debut at Shanghai Disney Resort on 29 September 2021, giving the celebration a particularly strong connection to the park.
Then, as September ends, Shanghai changes gear completely.
Halloween begins on 4 October and continues until 1 November 2026.
For the resort’s tenth birthday year, the Halloween programme expands to include ten Spook-tacular Days, taking place from 16–18 October, 23–25 October and 29 October–1 November.
Peg-Leg Pete makes his Halloween debut as an evil king, Mickey and Friends receive steampunk-inspired costumes and Duffy and Friends become a bard troupe. Zootopia also joins the season again with its wonderfully named Howl-o-ween celebration.
Shanghai’s calendar makes the difference between travelling in September and October particularly pronounced. September is essentially Duffy season; October belongs to the Villains.

September or October: which is better for Disney Parks in autumn?
If your main reason for travelling is Halloween, October remains the safest choice because every Disney resort offering a major Halloween season is running it by then.
But September has some advantages.
At Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World, Halloween is already well established from the beginning of the month. Tokyo and Hong Kong then join during the middle of September, followed by Disneyland Paris on 26 September.
Shanghai is the exception, where September instead offers Duffy Month before Halloween begins on 4 October.
That creates an interesting progression across the worldwide Disney Parks:
Early September is best for Disneyland and Walt Disney World, while Shanghai offers Duffy Month.
Mid-September adds Tokyo Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland to the Halloween calendar.
Late September brings Disneyland Paris into the season.
By October, Halloween is running across every Disney resort worldwide.
For anyone planning around events rather than simply choosing the quietest week, October therefore offers the widest possible selection. September, however, can be far more interesting if you want to catch the change between summer and autumn or experience some of the non-Halloween events taking place alongside it.
More than just Halloween
Halloween inevitably dominates Disney’s autumn calendar, but looking across the resorts shows how different the season has become.
Disneyland combines Halloween with Plaza de la Familia. Walt Disney World pairs pumpkins with the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. Tokyo DisneySea adds Halloween to a major anniversary year and Coco-inspired entertainment. Shanghai moves from a month devoted to Duffy and Friends into its own distinctive Halloween celebration.
Even the Halloween events themselves are very different.
California has Oogie Boogie Bash. Florida has Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Paris incorporates its Halloween Festival into the regular park experience. Hong Kong lets the Villains take over, Tokyo turns Halloween costumes into an event in their own right, and Shanghai celebrates with its Spook-tacular Days.
That variety is exactly why September and October are two of the most interesting months on the Disney Parks calendar.
